Visiting Scholars

The University of Bordeaux offers funding for visiting researchers and professors via an annual call for applications within the Visiting Scholars programme. The aim of the programme is to enable the university's research laboratories and departments, as well as doctoral and undergraduates students, to benefit from the presence of scholars with recognised international careers and/or considerable expertise. Therefore, the mobility projects proposed by applicants must be jointly based on research and teaching.

  • Its ambition is to structure long-term international collaborations in research and/or training between the University of Bordeaux and institutions abroad.
  • The programme covers all areas of research and teaching as well as the impetus of new international partnerships.
  • Invited scholars can be hosted for stays of between 1 and 10 months.

  • Visiting Scholars: "The brain is too complex, we need to collaborate!"

    Bae Hee-Joon is professor of neurology at Seoul National University College of Medicine, neurologist at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and director of the Gyeonggi Regional Cardiac and Cerebrovascular Centre in Seoul, South Korea. He is a world-renowned specialist in stroke and vascular cognitive disorders. He spent 3 months working at the University-Hospital Institute for Vascular Brain Health (VBHI) and in the Eleanor team at the Bordeaux Population Health (BPH) research centre.

  • Visiting Scholars: "Gaining in intellectual efficiency"

    Helen-Maria Vasiliadis is an epidemiologist and professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Sherbrooke. Her research focuses on the determinants of mental health and mental health services. Within the framework of the Visiting Scholars programme, she spent two months at the Bordeaux Population Health Research Centre (BPH) within the ACTIVE team, under the supervision of Hélène Amieva.

  • Visiting Scholars: "Mobility isn't optional!"

    Saron Catak is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Bogazici University in Istanbul (Turkey). A computational chemist and biochemist, she is renowned for her expertise in molecular dynamics. Her 10-month visiting scholarship at the Institute of Cellular Biochemistry and Genetics (IBGC) in the PRIMA team (Protein Instability and molecular aging) led by Muriel Priault - as part of the Visiting Scholars programme - ends in July 2024.
